This is where I am torn...
Let's start on the liberal side...here are my pro's and con's for Obama.
- I 100%, without any hesitation, support gay rights and gay marriage. I believe that religion has no place in government. I believe that anyone has the right to marry whomever they choose, whether it be same sex or not. I do NOT agree with Romney that marriage should be defined as a man and woman. However, I appreciate that despite his views, he doesn't plan on revoking the ban on "don't ask, don't tell". (1 point Obama)
- I do NOT like the health care reform act. I think it is a ridiculous legislation and I am appalled that it got passed. I am also sick of people saying to me: "What? You are against free health care??" Really? You think this means healthcare will be free? Please. Forcing people to get health insurance, is NOT free healthcare. Should everyone have insurance? Yes. Should everyone have a right to insurance? Yes. Should the government force people to buy insurance, and if they can't or don't buy insurance, force that person to pay a fine? No. How is this going to help? The problem with healthcare is the cost. The problem with healthcare is America's mind-set that every health problem needs to be cured. There needs to be more emphasis on prevention. Forcing small business owners to carry insurance on employees is going to put many small businesses OUT of business. The government is giving tax breaks. Really? I'll believe that when I see it. And expanding Medicaid to cover more people? Let me know how that works out also. (-1 point Obama)
- Abortion. I am pro choice. Would I ever have an abortion? No. Nor do I feel abortion should be used a birth control. However, I believe that even if abortion was against the law, it would NOT stop it from happening. Did it before? Nope. (+1 point Obama)
- Oil. Drill for oil. Go green. I don't care. Oil prices are sky-rocketing. I agree with Romney, the cause of the climates changes are still unknown. I like proof. (-1 point Obama)
Okay, here we go...
- Health care reform: Romney vows to repeal the reform. Yes please! (+1 point Romney)
- Does not support gay rights, however states he will not focus on this nor will he revoke the ban on "don't ask, don't tell" (neutral, he believes what he believes, but will leave it be)
- Abortion: Wants to reverse Roe vs Wade (boo, -1 point)
- Oil: supports drilling in the Atlantic and Pacific continental shelves, off-shore Alaska, etc. I agree. Drill for oil. (+1 point)
- Believes that the government has too much control over American's. AGREE! Aren't we supposed to be a democracy? Cause it feels very socialistic to me. (+1 point)
- Did I mention he wants to repeal the health care reform?
So, do I go with my morals or with what will affect me the most?? I will be following this election closely, but unfortunately my vote is leaning towards Romney.
Don't be shy readers, feel free to leave comments. It's nice to know there are people out there reading my ridiculous thoughts. Also...how do we like the new layout?
Until tomorrow,
Big, Beautiful & Broke... Chelsea
