Tiger Weekend Getaway

This weekend Bob and I went away by ourselves, for the first time in a long time! We had tickets to the Saturday and Sunday Detroit Tigers games so we stayed at the Motor City Casino and Hotel for one night. It was so much fun!! Here are some pictures:

I loved our room. It was very spacious and I loved the king size bed. I could completely surround myself with pillows and not bother Bob at all. Amazing!

Isn't this shower beautiful? It's what we want to do to ours, hopefully next year.

I was trying to catch the backs of our t-shirts in the mirror. This is one of the out takes. Bob thought I was being silly. Smeh!

Here are pictures from the Saturday night game. Tigers won 10-0. We were seated down the right field line, only 7 rows back. We were so close!

Sunday's game, we were located down the left field, right near the foul pole. Not as close but still great seats. Tigers won 12-4.

HOWEVER.

My Tiger is Miguel Cabrera. And he was thrown out in the 3rd inning for arguing balls and strikes. Something most players have done and the ump behind home plate threw him out. Seriously? Chad Fairchild, if you ever read this. You suck, that was a terrible call. You are obviously NOT a Tigers fan.

Anyways, it was still a great game and we still had lots of fun!

How was your weekend?

Day #267: Dear Detroit Tigers

Dear Detroit Tigers, you are my favorite baseball team (really favorite sports team in general) even when you have a disappointing season, such as 2008. I still love you though.

You taught me that a balk isn't just a noise a chicken makes. And that the in-field fly rule is not a rule that allows the players to run from bees and hornets.

I bought an initial bracelet and instead of getting my initial (C) it has an english D.

I named my ferrets after two of my favorite players...Miggy and Prince (after Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder).

You know how most people sob at the end of the movie, "The Notebook"? Yeah, I didn't. But I did cry like a baby when Miguel Cabrera won the Triple Crown. Don't judge. It was an emotional moment.

And today, I am going to Detroit to watch you guys play on the coldest day this week. I'm a true fan.

Day #93.2: Crafty

Guess who is going to the World Series?!?!?!

THE DETROIT TIGERS BABY!!!!!!!!!

I am elated. Tears of joy are streaming down my face. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but it's not just a game to some people. My brother, Brian, posted this on his Facebook the other day. The article rings true...to some of us, it's not just a game. It's life. Read it HERE.

Okay back to business. So, as you know I have been participating in the "October Overhauling" with Amie and friends at the Pinkapotamus (even though she is a Yankees fan...just kidding, Amie!!!) So, week one we cleaned, week two we posted pics of our clean craft room, and now it's time to post pictures of what we created in our clean craft room!

Day #68: Sunday is NOT a fun day.

Today was a very frustrating work day. I was in charge of a very short staffed emergency department. We had 8 total call ins. It was definitely a rough day, but we got through it! Now a few days off. Sweeeeet!

My mom is doing good, her stress test was negative. She is having a repeat CT scan to make sure the blood clot in her lung is not getting worse. She can hopefully go home tomorrow.

The Tigers are really pissing me off. They lost to the Twins BOTH games today. Now they are TWO games behind again for the pennant. AGAIN.

I definitely need new shoes, my feet hurt everyday and they are getting holes in them. Oui.

Okay, enjoy whining...

Day #47: DIY Gift Ideas

Congrats JV, on an excellent outing!
May I just share my excitement with the fact that the Detroit Tigers swept the Chicago White Sox. This now puts us tied for first place in the race for the play-offs. I really hope we can keep this up so I can enjoy post-season baseball.

And thank-you, Delmon, for your game winning 3-run homer.

Anyways, I may not type too much today. I just finished writing several discussion boards posts for school and my typing fingers are getting sore. My brain is also mush. I just finished working four 12 hour shifts in a row, plus I picked up some OT tomorrow.

So, there is only 113 days left until Christmas. Now, I know this may seem random but I'm broke and Christmas can be expensive. Since my husband and I are avid crafters and DIYers, I have been trolling the internet for some good DIY gifts. I mentioned a blog in an earlier entry, but the Happy House Wife has some great gift ideas for families on a budget. Other great DIY gift ideas can be found at the following:

I am hoping to come up with my own list of DIY gifts. It's added to my "Blog To-Do" List. It's getting long! So many ideas, so little time. I created a word document to organize my ideas. Also, so that I remember them!

Anyways, I hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day! Stay Safe!

Until tomorrow,

Day #44: Random Rambles.

Me & My mommy!
I could not sleep last night. It seemed no matter what I did, I tossed and turned. I am pretty sure I only got 3-4 hours of solid sleep. Then I worked all day. So, I will sleep VERY good tonight.

I went saw my mom after work, since she is conveniently located 3 floors above (and over) from where I work. I washed her hair and we went for a walk. Well, I walked and she rode in the wheelchair. She was happy to get out of her room though! Hopefully she will be allowed to get out and walk soon.

So, I have all these fake flowers left over from the wedding...blue and white hydrangeas. I'm thinking I might make a wreath for the front door. I have consulted Pinterest in this endeavor and am hoping to copy one of the wreathes I saw on there. A new project, someday, when I some time to put that together! I'm serious though, I have freaking fake flowers everywhere and I NO idea what to do with them. They weren't cheap. I must find a project of some sort.

Out and about at Covenant, with my mom and dad!
I'm watching the Tigers play and it's downright depressing. They have the potential to be a great time. But they keep f-ing up. It's frustrating. I'd like to see some play-off action. I'm thinking it may not happen.

I'm exhausted. Sorry for the rambly (is that a word?) blog entry.

Until tomorrow,

Big, Beautiful & Broke... Chelsea

Day #32: Date Night Adventure?

Before I get into the disaster that was date night, why didn't anyone tell me I wrote Day 5 yesterday instead of 31?? That's what I get for blogging after taking Benadryl!

Anyways, date night did NOT go as planned. Hubby and I left our house at 2:30 to head towards Detroit to go to the Tigers game. We learned yesterday that not only were the Tigers playing, but at Ford Field (next door to Comerica Park) Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney would be putting on a concert. This was not well planned Detroit, not well planned at all. First of all, Tiger's games attract a lot of people. So do Tim and Kenny. Which means if you arrive to D-town at 5:45 for a 7pm game, you will not find parking. We drove around Detroit for over an hour trying to find parking. Guess what we found? We found the highway back home

Seriously?! I wasted $80 on Tiger's tickets so that we could drive 2 hours to Detroit, only to drive 2 hours home. We stopped for dinner in Troy on the way down, which was awesome (PF Changs, always a good choice). I'm not going to lie I was very upset hysterical. I cried like a baby while leaving Detroit. It seems things just won't go our way right now.

We went back to Troy and visited the Somerset Mall. The first store we found was the Apple Store. For those who know us personally, know that this is no surprise, as Hubby loves Apple products.

Hubby playing around on an iMac.

After the Apple Store, we walked around for awhile and then left to go find a bar to watch the game. We drove up Big Beaver Rd looking for suggestions from my dad and brother. We only found one, pulled in and found that the bar was hosting a charity poker event. Thus, no parking or seating for us. Seriously?! So we left. After I pouted and whined, we drove up past Auburn Hills and stopped at Culver's for a pit stop.

Hubby and I, outside of Culver's

While sitting and eating our ice cream, Hubby mentioned crab legs sounded good. So, we decided to back track to Pontiac and go to Joe's Crab Shack. I felt this would cheer me up some. Had we found parking in Detroit, it would have costed $50. We decided to put this towards yummy crab legs instead. This is what ensued:

Mmm...lobster!

ARGH!

Loving the bib. Hot!

Definitely was NOT the date night that I had planned, however, after the tears and frustrations we did end up having a fun night. We tried to make the most of it. We are now home safe, relaxing on the couch and watching TV. Tomorrow I plan on cleaning and organizing the dining room and starting on my craft room.

Okay readers, before you leave please go to this address: http://www.garagewoodworks.com/contest_poll.php

And vote for the second frame...it's my hubby's!!!

Thanks!

Until tomorrow,

Day #17: Money Woes.

WARNING! The following entry is a whiny, feeling sorry for myself rant.

After a long day at work, I am sitting at home, exhausted and making some Kraft Mac & Cheese (Spongebob shaped, thank-you!) and stalking reading Facebook statuses. My step-daughter is going on a surprise trip tomorrow with her mom and step-dad, and while I am happy for her, inside I feel sad. We were supposed to go on a surprise trip last week but due to recent events, we were not able to. Heck, we couldn't even finish buying school clothes.

We both work so hard to try to get ahead, but it just doesn't happen. I haven't had a vacation in years. The only trip Bob and I have ever gone on together was to Arizona, to help my brother move. I was saving for so many things and we are back at square one. It would be so nice just to get away for a week. We had the perfect honeymoon planned. One week in Punta Cana at an all-inclusive resort. Relaxing on the beach, going to the spa. Then the next week in Washington DC, going to museums and sight seeing. Maybe someday we will get away together...

It's hard on Hubby too. He is going to nursing school so that he can make more money and provide more for his children. He makes decent money working part-time, however, half of his paychecks go to child support. Which is great and his money should go to child support, but I feel sad sometimes because he will never get the credit he deserves. He gets treated like a "dead beat dad" by both friends of the courts. The things that the child support provides, he doesn't get credit for. Each mom is getting a decent amount of money a month and if it's spent on the kids...the mom's get the credit. Not dad who is providing the money. I feel kind of bad for all those, mom's and dad's, who pay their child support who don't get any credit for it.

Anyways, I am certain this "feeling sorry for myself" attitude is stemming from my lack of sleep for the past 3 days.

On a happier note...the Tigers are winning!

On a humorous note:

It's so true. Not everyone. But sometimes.

Thanks faithful readers and friends, for reading my whiny venting.

Until tomorrow,

Big, Beautiful & Broke... Chelsea

Day #5: Things that irritate me.

Today's entry will be about something that annoys me. Mostly because I just spent 12 hours in charge of a short-staffed emergency room on 5 hours of sleep. I'm kind of pissy. My pissy pants are on and my compassion cupboard is empty. Feeling like a good rant is in order.

*Start Rant*

People are saying we need more gun control in this country. More gun control will stop things like a crazy man going to a midnight showing of Batman movies from shooting many innocent people. I would like to refer to condescending Wonka to share my viewpoint on this matter:

Food for thought: If at least one person in that movie theatre had a concealed weapon permit and had been packing, perhaps after one good shot between the eyes, the man shooting everyone else could've been stopped. Just sayin'.

Paternalism (or parentalism) most typically refers to behavior, by a person, organization or state, which limits some person's liberty or autonomy for their good, or the liberty or autonomy of some group of people for their good. Examples of paternalism include laws requiring the use of motorcycle helmets, a parent forbidding their children to engage in dangerous activities, and a psychiatrist confiscating sharp objects from someone who is suicidally depressed.

*End Rant.*

Okay, now by day #5 of this year long blog let's recap...what should my readers know about me? I'm married. I'm "obese". I'm broke. I have strongish opinions about religion and gun control. I use condescending Wonka to reiterate my points.

One more thing about me? I love the Detroit Tigers. I'm very happy to say that they have swept the White Sox and my boy, Miggy, has hit his 300th home-run. First place! yes!

Until tomorrow,

Big, Beautiful & Broke... Chelsea
